Our earlier article on seamless cosmetic tubes explained how extruded seamless tubes and laminated tubes are made and how they differ. Brands often ask the next question: which one should my specific product use?
The answer depends on three things: how sensitive the formula is to oxygen and fragrance loss, how detailed the artwork is, and how the tube should look and feel. This guide applies those factors to common cosmetic products.
| Product | Typical choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Face wash and cleansing gel | PBL laminated, or seamless for simple designs | High-volume products with rich artwork; moderate barrier needs |
| Moisturiser and day cream | PBL laminated | Premium print and shape retention; protects fragrance |
| Sunscreen | PBL laminated | UV filters and fragrance benefit from a barrier; detailed claims on pack |
| Hair colour cream | ABL laminated | Oxidation-sensitive formula; dead fold limits air intake |
| Hand cream | PBL laminated or seamless | Either works; seamless gives a soft, translucent option |
| Hair gel | Seamless or PBL | Low sensitivity; transparent tubes can show the gel |
| Serums with actives | PBL or ABL laminated | Actives such as vitamin C need stronger protection |
| Herbal and ayurvedic creams | PBL laminated | Natural fragrances and extracts benefit from a barrier |
| Mehndi and henna paste | Laminated | Protects the paste and supports rich cultural artwork |
These are starting points, not rules. Stability testing with your formula is the final decision-maker.
Laminated tubes can also look nearly seamless. A narrow side seam and artwork that runs across it keep the seam discreet. See our cosmetic tube artwork guide for layout tips.
Based in Rajkot since 2009, Antilla Propack manufactures laminated tubes, including PBL and ABL tubes, for cosmetic, skin cream and mehndi products. Our team can help you decide which structure suits your formula and design.
A PBL laminated tube is usually preferred because its barrier helps protect UV filters and fragrance, and it supports detailed claims and artwork. Stability testing with the actual formula should confirm the choice.
An ABL laminated tube is commonly used because its aluminium barrier protects oxidation-sensitive formulas and the tube stays folded, limiting air intake.
Seamless tubes suit products with robust formulas and simple designs where a soft, translucent or seam-free look is important, such as some hand creams and hair gels.
Laminated tubes always have a side seam, but a narrow seam with artwork that continues across it can make the seam very hard to notice.
Shortlist options based on barrier needs, artwork and feel, then run filled-sample compatibility and stability tests and compare total cost.
